To celebrate the release of Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull on DVD and Blu-ray (out Oct 30!); Popcorn Taxi is proud to present a big screen experience taking you back to where the adventure all began: Raiders of the Lost Ark. A new 35mm print will be shipped from the UK to give audiences a chance to experience Steven Spielberg's classic homage to the adventure serial in all its big screen glory. Plus we will have star of both 'Raiders' and 'Crystal Skull', Karen Allen live on stage after the film for a candid chat and audience Q&A that you will not want to miss. As if this isn't enough, Popcorn Taxi will also be showing 20 mins of unseen and behind-the-scenes footage from Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull as a treat for those eagerly awaiting the DVD and Blu-ray release. The film was subsequently nominated for nine Academy Awards, including Best Picture, in 1982 and won four (Best Sound, Best Film Editing, Best Visual Effects, Best Art Direction-Set Decoration). It also received an additional Special Achievement Award for Sound Effects Editing. It won numerous other awards, including a Grammy and Best Picture at the People's Choice Awards. Spielberg was also nominated for a Golden Globe. The film received positive reviews from most critics. Roger Ebert in his review wrote, "Two things, however, make Raiders of the Lost Ark more than just a technological triumph: its sense of humor and the droll style of its characters [...] We find ourselves laughing in surprise, in relief, in incredulity at the movie's ability to pile one incident upon another in an inexhaustible series of inventions." He later added it to his list of "Great Movies". Rolling Stone said the film was "the ultimate Saturday action matinee–a film so funny and exciting it can be enjoyed any day of the week." Bruce Williamson of Playboy claimed: "There's more excitement in the first ten minutes of Raiders than any movie I have seen all year. By the time the explosive misadventures end, any movie-goer worth his salt ought to be exhausted." Stephen Klain of Variety also praised the film. Yet, making an observation that would revisit the franchise with its next film, he felt that the film was surprisingly violent and bloody for a PG-rated film. the plot in a nutshell It's 1936 and college professor and part-time 'field archiologist' Indiana Jones is tipped-off that the Nazis are seeking out the infamous 'Ark of the Covenant', a relic that is said to contain the remains of the Ten Commandments stone tablets.
