The very first Popcorn Taxi program was held in Sydney on November 10th 1999 and then in Melbourne on October 5th 2000. Since then Popcorn Taxi has hosted film events in Sydney and Melbourne at various locations on a regular basis.

For more than 5 years Popcorn Taxi's Sydney home was situated at the Valhalla Cinema in Glebe, one Sydney's last independent cinema venues. Sadly the Valhalla was forced to close it's doors for the very last time in mid 2005.

Today most Popcorn Taxi events in Sydney are held at Greater Union, Bondi Junction in the Westfield Centre (level 6, 500 Oxford Street, Bondi Junction). There is ample free parking after 5pm, and lots of places to grab something to eat beforehand, or a drink afterwards.

Popcorn Taxi - Melbourne events are held at a variety of venues, including The Australian Centre for the Moving Image (Flinders Street, Federation Square, Melbourne).

On occasion, Popcorn Taxi will utilise larger venues for bigger events – for example, the Kevin Smith CLERKS II Premiere was held in August 2006 at the State Theatre in Sydney and the Astor Theatre in Melbourne.
