David Fincher, Paul Giamatti, Clancy Brown and the genius of artist Eric Powell still can’t get funding for what could be the most originally entertaining spin on the Zombie genre ever – ‘The Goon’.
In June, 2008 it was announced on The Goon official site that a CG animated adaptation was to be undertaken by the award-winning Blur Studio, produced by David Fincher and written by Eric Powell. Paul Giamatti and Clancy Brown would be the vocal talent for the wisecracking (sans pupils) ‘Franky’ and the hulking ‘Goon’ respectively.
Recently released test footage (plus earlier polished footage shown at Comic-Con) shows the tongue-in-cheek comic book come to life with engaging results. Pixar meets Bubba Ho-Tep.
The comic series has a humorous paranormal slant, with the average story concerning ghosts, ghouls, (skunk-apes with an unnatural hunger for cake), extra-dimensional aliens, swearing, ultra-violence and mad scientists. What’s not to love?
If you have a lazy couple of million – get in touch with the producers and do us all a favour… this movie HAS to be made!
