Meryl Streep is a fascinating magician of cinema.
With the ability to squawk “A dingo took my baby!” (Evil Angels), through to a derelict in Ironweed, the bitch of all bosses in The Devil Wears Prada and the countless other roles where her true personality is hidden beneath the projection of an actor most rare. So much so that 16 Academy Award nominations and countless accolades have deterred the resting on laurels, and rather incited more challenging work.
Not too dissimilar to Helen Mirren’s brave portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II for The Queen, comes Streep’s latest incarnation as the most feared, powerful, loved and equally hated (while being potentially misunderstood) political figure in European politics; Margaret Thatcher for Phyllida Lloyd’s The Iron Lady.
As we can see in the new photos the physical metamorphosis is uncanny – so too the voice and mannerism in the cheeky teaser trailer.
If this has the wit and spunk of The Queen, we’re in for one Hell of a ride. However since it’s also been directed by the lady behind Mamma Mia… our finger’s are indeed crossed.
