Body-horror master, David Cronenberg, who’s since chiseled a dramatic niche all unto himself with his brilliant works Spider, A History of Violence and Eastern Promises, is keeping a solid momentum with not one but two projects due for release.

Currently filming is the tale of a million-dollar playboy on a 24-hour odyssey in the Big Apple (with Toronto standing in for New York) in Cosmopolis – set for release in 2012. This project could go either way for us since the lead is Robert Pattison (hmm), yet what is tickling our fancy is his recently-wrapped psychoanalytical love triangle, A Dangerous Method. Based on the play The Talking Cure by Oscar-Winning writer Christopher Hampton (Dangerous Liaisons), ’Method’ is the tale of the tensions that grew between famed psychoanalysts Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung over their relationship with fellow ground-breaker Sabina Spielrein.

Re-teaming for the third time with Viggo Mortensen (as Freud), the film also stars Michael Fassbender (X-Men: First Class) as friend-turned-nemesis Jung, Keira Knightley as Spielrein and Eastern Promises’ Vincent Cassel as ostracized, anarchistic psychoanalyst Otto Gross.

A Dangerous Method looks to be the perfect fit for the man who turned Jeff Goldblum into a fly, saw James Woods extract a pistol from an erogenous stomach cavity, had Viggo conduct a knife fight in a Turkish bath without any protection, and of course demonstrated heads-a-poppin’ with the power of telekinesis. Since Cronenberg has conquered fears of the body, can the one-time science student take us successfully into the world of the subconscious with the godfather of coke-sniffing, psycho-sexual, atheistic, analytical genius thoughts that was Sigmund Freud? We’re predicting ‘Yes’.

Failing that – here’s also a little piece from Troma with Cronenberg explaining how he peddles his wares:
