Seems as though the strongest source for news on Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming historic-American-slave-action/drama/thriller Django Unchained, is one-time creative screenwriting editor Jeff Goldsmith who’s continuing to drop the bombshells.
Not only did he spill the beans on Leonardo DiCaprios’ involvement (potentially playing villainous plantation owner Calvin Candie) Yesterday Goldsmith tweeted; ‘Will Smith is out! Inside sources tell me that Tarantino has chosen Oscar winner @iamjamiefoxx to play Django!’
Will Smith was hotly considered to be on the verge of accepting the controversial title role of a freed slave on a murderous rampage with a bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz) to save his kidnapped wife. Now that he has passed, Foxx looks to be a worthy contender. Sources close to the production were not authorised to speak on the record, however they were adamant Tarantino had found his man.
If true, Django’s ensemble looks to be a memorable one with Foxx to sharing screen-time with DiCaprio, Samuel L. Jackson, The Wire’s Idris Elba and original Django Franco Nero for the Christmas day, 2012 release. What a stupendous release window Dec 2012 has now become with Man of Steel, The Hobbit, The Lone Ranger…et al.
Production is due to begin September / October of this year.
