DiCaprio Unchained?

Casting rumors swell today from the world of Twitter. Former editor of Creative Screenwriting Magazine, Jeff Goldsmith (the man responsible for the amazingly addictive US Popcorn Taxi-esque Q&A sessions – available on podcast) tweets today that Leonardo DiCaprio has nabbed the role of Calvin Candie in Tarantino’s upcoming ‘Southern’, slave trade, gun-blazing, 2013 epic-to-be Django Unchained.

Still unconfirmed at this stage – with Goldsmith unwilling to reveal his source; he was one of the privileged few to have an advance copy of the newly completed script and has not been coy on any news regarding the project.

Tarantino had originally considered DiCaprio for the role of Colonel Hans Landa, made famous by Christoph Waltz (earning him a well-deserved Oscar) in Inglourious Basterds; banking at the time on Leo’s fluency in German (due to his Mother’s heritage) to push his acting chops into uncharted waters as ‘The Jew Hunter’. This time we can hope to see both bi-lingual actors on-screen as Waltz is also rumored to be associated with the project.

So far, the casting call is looking as envious and exciting as only a Quentin Tarantino project can be with Will Smith, Samuel L. Jackson and original Django, Franco Nero all believed to be summoned to the south.
